Britain’s Got Talent has received more than 1,000 complaints from furious viewers after popular dance troupe Diversity took to the stage with a routine inspired by Black Lives Matter.

The performance, which narrated the senseless killing of unarmed black man George Floyd in May, had already polarised fans of the mainstream talent show due to its overtly political stance.

A total of 1,121 viewers went on to air their grievances with regulatory body Ofcom, with Diversity’s controversial routine singled out by many.

An Ofcom spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘I can confirm that we have received 1,121 complaints about Britain’s Got Talent on 5 September, most of which were in relation to the Diversity performance.

‘We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.’

Former Britain’s Got Talent champions opened the performance by reciting a viral poem The Great Realisation by the singer Tomfoolery, about the BLM movement and police brutality.
